My Satanic alter-ego, Flibbertigibbet, is gonna be appearing on prime time network television, the first episode of Last Comic Standing (Season 7) to be specific. I'm not going to be a contestant on the show but they will be showing my audition. Here's how this came about. For 15 years I did a musical comedy act called Powered By Satan. I dressed in red tights with horns and a tail and played obnoxious songs. After I moved to LA, the character was refined for the comedy stage and became Flibbertigibbet. Finally, I needed a change and decided to retire this character and work on my plainclothes act, which has a much lower wedgie coefficient. Flibbertigibbet came out for special requests only. Then NBC called me with a special request of their own. They invited me to try out for Last Comic Standing as Flibbertigibbet. I have no idea how they found me. The audition was a blast. They had all the freaks, crackpots, and costume acts in one room. I was sitting near some real interesting characters: an alien warrior, an obese drag queen, a Robin Hood dude, a transvestite, a guy in a fuzzy bear outfit on stilts, and Jerry Brandt. It reminded me of the cantina scene on the first Star Wars. I was under no illusions. We were there to provide color and to allow the judges (the real stars of the show) to sharpen their teeth. So you'll get to see an edited version of my audition. It had its high points and low points. The judges threw a few wrenches into my game plan and how good this makes me look will depend 100% on the editing. Either way, there's no such thing as bad publicity and this was an amazing experience! After my audition, they filmed an interview with me in front of the line of comics who had been waiting on line for days to get their chance. I've performed with many of them. There are are amazingly talented performers among them who have paid a lot of dues. I hope I see some of them tonight. I hope I see one of them win. Thank you NBC for thinking of me. |
